Creating dialogue between the Hispanic and LGBT community which have a common goal: full equality.

LULAC 4871 Member Juan Ayala Honored at State Convention
During the Unity Reception and Dance on June 4, LULAC 4871 Co-founding
Member Juan Ayala was honored during the leadership awards ceremony.
Individuals from the Latino, Muslim, Jewish, Anglo, African-American and LGBT
who were selected from their respective communities as outstanding leaders were
recognized.  Ayala was praised for his leadership domestically and internationally,
traveling abroad to talk about progressive politics.  His international role with the
Young Democrats of America has had him meet with world leaders. We salute you
Juan for representing both the LGBT and Latino community so well!

LULAC 4871 passes its Equality Resolution
More than 400 League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) members
attended the 80th annual Texas State LULAC Convention — “Unity 09” — in Dallas
at the Hilton Lincoln Centre June 4-7.  LULAC 4871 – The Dallas Rainbow Council
was represented by delegates Zhyla Alvarado, Felix Arrieta, Felix Gaytan, Bernice
Gonzalez, Chelle Simmons and Jesse Tafalla, Jr. Alternates were Jesse Garcia
and Omar Narvaez. LULAC 4871’s “Employment for All” resolution which asks
LULAC to support federal legislation that protects Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender citizens from being discriminated in the workplace (the Employee
Non-Discrimination Act – that includes gender identity and expression) was
adopted by the Texas LULAC membership.

“We are very pleased that our LULAC brothers and sisters across the state of
Texas believe every person in this great nation has right to go to work and not be
fired for who they are,” said Jesse Garcia, president of LULAC 4871. “LGBT people
are unable to find protection in the judicial system in many states. In Texas, people
can be fired for being gay in the public sector or in state jobs. This is wrong. Our
U.S. Constitution guarantees that we have equal protection and should have due
process for all.”
