Sept. 15 - General Meeting:
We will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 p.m., at Havana’s, located at 4006
Cedar Springs Rd., Dallas, TX 75219. Special guest speaker is Elena White,
daughter of Texas Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Bill White. Join us for
dinner, drinks and fellowship!

Sept. 19 - Pride Parade:
The Dallas Rainbow Council will be parade entry No. 33 at the 2010 Alan Ross
Texas Freedom Parade on Sunday, Sept. 19.  Dallas’ annual gay pride parade will
begin at 2 p.m.  Our vehicle entry will need to be in place by Noon. Marchers and
banner carriers should be at our entry site by 1 p.m.  LULAC 4871 will have a
booth at the Pride Picnic where folks will congregate after the parade. Our booth is
located in front of the N. Hall Street and Sale Street intersection. Booth set up will
be at 9 a.m. The park will open as early as 11 a.m. and the festival will end at 6 p.
m.  Organizers expect 30,000 people. We will need members to walk along our
entry down Cedar Springs Rd. and help us throw beads and carry our banner
during the parade.  And we need volunteers for our booth in the park to help us
register voters and distribute literature. To volunteer, contact Jesse at

Oct. 9 - LULAC “Train the Trainer on Employment Issues”:
LULAC District 3 and District 21, along with our sister council LULAC 4782, will
host a “Train the Trainer on Employment Issues” which will empower LULAC
members with knowledge about your rights in the workplace.  The event takes
place Saturday, Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Arlington Entertainment
Complex, located at 915 West Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, TX 76013. Guest
presenters include Juan Munoz, Bilingual Investigator at the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission, and Employment Law Attorney Maricela Siewczynski.
This free event is for LULAC members.

Oct. 10 - LULAC LifeWalk Team has formed:
Our LifeWalk LULAC Team has formed and will participate in the annual 5k
run/walk on Sunday, Oct. 10, at Noon, at Lee Park. As of today, 13 LULAC 4871
members will walk: Zhyla Alvarado, Reymundo Anthony, Elias Cantu, Rogelio
Fernandez, Jesse Garcia, Martha Garcia, Elizabeth Lopez, Sean Lozano, Patricia
Mancha, Patrick McCoy, Sammy Nesbit-Guevara, Claudio Rejas, Priscilla Rice
and Chelle Simmons.  Team members are encouraged to register online by
visiting www.lifewalk.org and select LULAC as your Team. We have already raised
$725 (online and offline). We are within in reach of our $1,000 goal!

Dec. 10-11 – Cena En El Barrio:
LULAC District III and its councils will participate in the 7th Annual Cena En El
Barrio (Dinner in the Neighborhood) North Texas feeding project.  This year’s
event will take place on Friday, Dec. 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. (drop off and sort
supplies), and Saturday, Dec. 11, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. (assemble and deliver).
Mountain View College LULAC will host this event inside the MVC Gym, located at
4849 W. Illinois Ave., Dallas, TX 75211. Talks are underway to bring back North
Texas and Tyson as partners. LULAC District III executive officers and presidents
decided to assign the following: adult councils will collect cake mixes, young
adults will collect bags of beans and rice, and youth will collect vegetable cans
(preferably corn, carrots, green beans, peas and mixed vegetables). At the July
LULAC 4871 general meeting, new member Dahlia Garcia said her office
Ameritax will donate 100 cake mixes toward our 200 goal. Dallas Rainbow
Council members are encouraged to bring cake mixes and copy paper boxes (to
deliver meals in) to the September, October and November meetings. This year
LULAC 4871 will once again donate meals to the Resource Center Dallas Food
Pantry and the AIDS Interfaith Soup Kitchen. If you want to help out our new LULAC
Youth Council, please bring canned vegetables. The LULAC youth group has
challenged itself to collect 500. The group has already collected 40 cans one
week into the challenge.

Dec. 17 - Holiday Party:
LULAC 4871 President Jesse Garcia will host the annual Tamale Holiday Party at
his residence, on Friday, Dec. 17, from 7 to 10 p.m. We will dine on traditional
Mexican dishes and sing a Posada. Save the Date! And bring your membership
renewal - $35!
